Chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday directed the chiefs of the three armed forces to take all necessary measures to ensure foolproof security for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangshad elections to be held in the first half of February 2026.

He gave them the directives in a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief  Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan at his official residence state guesthouse Jamuna in the city.

During the meeting, the chief adviser praised members of the armed forces for their tireless efforts in maintaining national security and law and order, according to a press release issued by the chief adviser’s press wing.

‘Over the past 15 months, members of the army and all other forces have worked extremely hard to maintain the law and order. I have instructed the three armed forces to ensure that the upcoming election is conducted under a foolproof security blanket,’ Yunus told the meeting.

He reiterated that the interim government was committed to holding the election in a free, fair, neutral, peaceful, and festive manner.

At the meeting, the chiefs of the three forces briefed the chief adviser on the comprehensive preparations being undertaken by the armed forces for the elections, said the release.

According to their plan, around 90,000 army personnel, more than 2,500 navy members, and a number of air force officers will be deployed for maintaining the law and order during the polls. One army company will be stationed in each upazila.

During the meeting, the three service chiefs also invited the chief adviser to attend the Armed Forces Day celebrations scheduled for November 21.

Presiding over a high-level meeting on the election preparedness at Jamuna earlier on October 28, chief adviser Muhammad Yunus expressed fears that both internal and external forces might attempt to disrupt the forthcoming national election and cautioned that sudden attacks could occur.

He said that there were challenges, but they must be overcome.
