Metro rail services were temporarily suspended on the Motijheel-Agargaon section of the capital’s Line-6 on Wednesday night due to jerking at the Farmgate point.
However, services on the Agargaon-Uttara section continued to operate as usual, according to officials from the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the agency overseeing the metro rail operations.
In a press release issued the same day, DMTCL reassured passengers about the safety of its services.
Earlier this week, metro rail services were halted for 23 hours on the Shahbagh-Bijoy Sarani section following a fatal incident involving a pedestrian who was struck by a bearing pad that had fallen from a metro pier on October 26. Services resumed on the Uttara-Agargaon section after two and a half hours, and on the Motijheel-Shahbagh section after seven hours.
Brigadier General (retd) Md Abdul Wohab, Director of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line-6), told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the suspension on Wednesday night was due to issues related to the operations of trains near the location where the bearing pad had fallen.
‘At about 9:30 p.m., the services were suspended,’ he explained. ‘However, trains on the Agargaon-Uttara section are running as usual.’
Md Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, deputy project director for Public Relations of the Line-6 project, explained that the jerking between the Farmgate and Agargaon sections led to the suspension.
The location where the bearing pad fell on October 26, Pier 433, is near the entrance of the Farmgate metro station.
This incident follows a similar occurrence in 2024, when a bearing pad fell from Pier 430.
In the release, DMTCL emphasised that all metro trains are being operated in compliance with safety rules and regulations.
‘Passengers are kindly requested not to be concerned about safety,’ the statement concluded.
