Two people were killed and seven others were injured when a shallow-engine-run human hauler, locally known as a Bhotbhoti, overturned and plunged into a ditch on the Biharinagar Bypass in Dhamoirhat upazila of Naogaon district on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Bhuttu Hossain, 45, a cattle trader and son of Nazim Uddin, and Masudur Rahman Maula, 30, the driver of the vehicle and son of Joynul of village Aranagar in the upazila.
Quoting local people, Imam Zafar, officer-in-charge of Dhamoirhat Police Station, said that the accident occurred in the Double Bridge area at about 7:30 am when the Joypurhat-bound, cattle-laden Bhotbhoti overturned while giving way to a motorcycle, leaving two people dead on the spot and seven others injured.
On information, a team from the Fire Service rushed to the scene and carried out a rescue operation.
The injured were taken to Dhamoirhat Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
