
The University of Dhaka will observe Mourning Day on Wednesday with solemn programmes in remembrance of the tragic incident that occurred at Jagannath Hall on this day in 1985.
The day marks the devastating collapse of a roof at the university鈥檚 Jagannath Hall, which claimed the lives of students, university staff and guests.
Since then, October 15 has been observed as DU Mourning Day every year to honour the memories of those who perished in the incident.
The university authorities will pay tribute by laying floral wreaths at the Jagannath Hall Memorial at 7:30am to mark the day.
DU vice-chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmad Khan is expected to lead the event, a DU press release said on Tuesday.
Following the ceremony, a discussion meeting will be held at 8:00am in the TV room of the October Memorial Building at Jagannath Hall.
On October 15 in 1985, at least 39 people were reportedly killed in the tragic Jagannath Hall rooftop collapse.
