Team Bhumikompo from Independent University, Bangladesh became Champion in the Poster Presentation segment of the Disaster Management Exercise 4.0, organised by the BUP Disaster Management Forum recently.

The national competition brought together students from universities across Bangladesh to showcase innovative approaches to disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, said a press release.

The IUB team comprised: Farhan Sadeque from the department of computer science and engineering, and Rukhsar Anwar and Limia Nawer from the department of environmental science and management.

They developed a project titled ‘IoT-Based Centralised Earthquake Response and Recovery Platform for Bangladesh’.

The proposed platform introduced a five-layer integration model that combines IoT-based seismic data collection, AI-driven damage assessment, and blockchain-enabled transparency in resource coordination. Through sensors, smartphone-based reporting, and localized AI data centres, the system processes real-time information and displays it on a centralised dashboard for emergency response teams and government agencies.

Disaster Management Exercise 4.0 served as a platform for students nationwide to present research-based, practical innovations for real-world disaster challenges.
