Ninety-six students of Dhaka University history department of different years were awarded scholarships worth Tk 14 lakh at a programme at the DU Sirajul Islam Lecture Hall on Monday.

Dean of the DU faculty of arts Professor Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan and part-time professor of the history department Syed Anwar Hossain spoke at the ceremony, which was presided over by chairperson of the department Professor Ashfaq Hossain.


Associate professor Sharmin Jahan Chowdhury conducted the ceremony.

The students in 3 categories received this scholarship. In the first category, 19 students were awarded Tk 4,000 per month; in the second category, 17 students were awarded Tk 7,000 at a time, and in the third category, 31 students were awarded Tk 5,000 at a time.

In addition, 29 students who secured first, second and third positions in the final examination of each year are awarded merit scholarships.

The first place students of each year receive a scholarship of 10 thousand taka, the second place students receive 7 thousand taka and the third place students receive 5 thousand taka.

It is worth noting that there are 16 scholarship funds in the history department. Scholarships are given to meritorious students in different categories every year from these funds.
