A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member was injured in a landmine explosion on Sunday while on patrol in the Tumbru area of Naikhongchhari Upazila, Bandarban, near the Myanmar border, which has been ravaged by armed conflict.
The injured BGB member, Lance Naik Md Akter Hossain, is assigned to the Cox’s Bazar BGB 34 Battalion, according to a press release from Colonel Mohammad Mohiuddin Ahmed, the BGB’s Ramu sector commander.
‘The injured BGB member has been admitted to Ramu Combined Military Hospital for advanced treatment, and medical care is ongoing,’ the press release stated.
Landmine explosions have become increasingly frequent along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, as displaced Rohingya refugees continue to flee Myanmar’s Rakhine State to Bangladesh since 2017, amid ongoing conflict.
