Bangladesh Medical University pro-vice-chancellor for administration Professor Md Abul Kalam Azad has been conferred with the national-level Excellent Teacher Award on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day 2025.
Professor Azad, a renowned medicine expert, was recognised for his outstanding contributions to the highest level of medical education in the country, said a press release.
The award was presented at a ceremony held on Sunday at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital. Education adviser, Professor CR Abrar, handed over the honorary memento to Professor Azad.
The event was attended by primary and mass education adviser Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, University Grants Commission chair Professor SM Fayez, and other distinguished guests.
This year, 12 teachers from primary, secondary, higher secondary, and university levels across Bangladesh were honoured with the prestigious award.
Following the national recognition, Professor Azad was felicitated by the officials and employees of the BMU vice-chancellor’s office, who presented him with a bouquet of flowers on Monday.
Professor Azad also serves as the chair of the department of internal medicine. An accomplished physician, he follows in the footsteps of his father, Professor Abdul Karim Mollah, the former principal of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College. He obtained his MBBS degree from the same college in 1996 with the highest marks. He later earned his FCPS degree and the ASHAB Memorial Gold Medal in Medicine in 2001. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in both Edinburgh and London.
Professor Azad has a prolific academic record, with more than 60 publications in various national and international journals.Â
