Police arrested six members of a local teenage gang in Ashulia’s Jamgora area, seizing locally made weapons, drugs and mobile SIM cards in overnight raids, as they stated on Wednesday.

The detainees, led by alleged gang leader Iyar Hossain, had been operating in Jamgora, Bhadail and Rupayan residential areas for months. They were accused of extortion, drug trafficking and violent assaults.

Residents had lodged repeated complaints but the group remained at large until this week.

Acting on intelligence reports of assaults and death threats, troops from Jamgora Army Camp launched five separate operations late on Monday near Jamgora Primary School, Bot Tola, Rupayan residential area and the adjacent areas.

‘Several criminal cases including arms charges were lodged earlier against the arrested teen agers,’ said Mozibur Rahman, sub-inspector of Ashulia police station.

Authorities said the group was also involved in illegal arms possession, extortion, online betting and drug trade.

Armed forces seized 16 homemade firearms, five sharp weapons, cannabis, eight mobile phones and 48 SIM cards during the raids.

The arrested teen agers and the recovered items were handed over to Ashulia police.
