Armed men posing as police in plain clothes allegedly abducted and robbed three officials of a garment factory of cash and pay orders worth Tk 3.5 crore at Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on September 25, police and company officials said.
The attackers, who identified themselves as members of the Detective Branch of police, intercepted a car carrying the officials of Delicate Garments on the Dhaka-Aricha highway at Baliarpur Turag, northwest of the capital Dhaka, in the evening of September 25.
The officials were on the way to the company’s Dhaka office after they withdrew funds from a local bank, the company said.
‘Our staff were handcuffed and blindfolded. Armed men beat them and took away Tk 25 lakh in cash and pay orders worth Tk 3.25 crore,’ Delicate Garments managing director Delwar Hossain told reporters.
The victims were identified as human resources administrators Liton Mia, Bayejid Mia and Russell Hossain.
The officials said that they were abandoned separately in rural areas of Dhamrai and Tangail districts after being stripped of the money and their mobile phone SIM cards.
‘The attackers freed us after taking the cash, pay orders and our SIMs,’ Liton Mia said.
Police on Friday confirmed receiving a complaint and said an investigation was under way in this connection.
‘We have launched operations to identify the offenders and recover the money,’ said Jewel Mia, officer-in-charge of the Savar model police station.
