The police arrested 40 people during a raid at the camp for the Urdu-speaking people in the capital’s Mohammadpur area between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

The police said that they also seized eight cocktails, two petrol bombs, six Japanese swords, five helmets, three knives, 11 stolen mobile phones and 500 grams of heroin from their possession.

The arrestees were taken into custody for their involvement in various crimes, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner for Tejgaon Division, Ibne Mizan, said in a press briefing on Sunday.

He said that the raid was a part of regular operations to maintain law and order in the capital.

‘This is a regularly discussed location in the Mohammadpur thana area where crimes are regularly orchestrated. The area is also known for drug trafficking,’ he said.

In response to a query, Mizan said that the police have brought more than 3,000 people to book in the Mohammadpur area in the past six or seven months.

‘We are conducting regular operations in crime-ridden areas to maintain the law and order situation in Dhaka,’ he added.
