Two people, including a student, were killed in separate lightning strikes at Daulatpur in Kushtia on Saturday.
The deceased were Saif Hossain Toha, 10, a Class IV student and son of Palash Mandal of Shitlaipara village in the upazila, and Jamat Ali, 25, of Bilgathua village in the same upazila.
Lightning followed by a rainstorm hit Toha when he was fishing in a pond near his house at Shitlaipara village. He was taken to Daulatpur hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
In another incident, lightning struck two people at Bilgathia village while they were sitting beside their houses.
After the incident farmer Jamat Ali and Maqbul Hossain were taken to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Jamat Ali dead, said family planning officer Dr Tuhin.
Maqbul Hossain was injured in the same incident and is undergoing treatment.
The Daulatpur police officer-in-charge Solaiman Sheikh confirmed the matters.
