Chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday urged all to stay alert against any attempts of conspiracy centering Durga Puja celebrations.
He made the call during a meeting with the leaders of various Puja Celebration Councils at the state guest house Jamuna in Dhaka to discuss the preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja.
During the meeting, Hindu leaders invited the chief adviser to visit puja mandaps during the puja, according to a press release issued by the chief adviser’s press wing.
Yunus said, ‘Although I always wish to meet you, opportunities are rare. The Durga Puja gives us this chance to meet and talk at least once a year.’
He inquired about overall preparations and arrangements for the upcoming festival.
Hindu leaders informed him that more than a thousand new puja mandaps had been added this year compared to the past year, and preparations were progressing in full swing across the country.
The leaders also expressed gratitude to the interim government, particularly the religious affairs adviser and secretary, for their continued support.
They noted that the Religious Affairs adviser has maintained regular communication, visited temples, and ensured administrative cooperation to make the celebrations festive and peaceful.
They expressed confidence that, as in the previous year, this year’s puja will also be held without disruption.
Jayanta Kumar Deb, president of the Mahanagar Puja Committee, extended special thanks to the chief adviser for allocating land through the Railways Ministry for a permanent Durga temple, calling it a historic step.
He recalled Yunus’ visit to the Dhakeshwari temple in the past year, where he had said, ‘We are all one family,’ a message that inspired the community deeply.
Basudev Dhar, president of the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council, praised Yunus for his inclusive message last year, when he stated that puja celebrations should not be held under heavy security cordons, but with social harmony.
SN Tarun Dey, the secretary general of the Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Welfare Front, lauded Yunus for setting an example of communal harmony during his tenure.
He, however, raised concern over the spread of misinformation and fake news on social media, urging continued leadership for unity across communities.
The chief adviser extended advance greetings for Durga Puja and urged everyone to remain vigilant so that no conspiracy disrupts the spirit of the celebrations.
