Unidentified people vandalised idols at the Shwarupdah Palpara Sri Sri Rakhha Kali Temple at Mirpur upazila of Kushtia on Sunday night.

Confirming the matter, Kushtia’s Mirpur police station officer-in-charge Mominul Islam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Monday that the incident might have occurred between 8:00pm and 8:30pm Sunday night.

Hindus had been organising Durga Puja for the past three years at the Shwarupdah Palpara Sri Sri Rakhha Kali Temple, the OC said.

Two idols were vandalised in the temple, he said, adding that the miscreants also stole a security camera and memory card.

‘The miscreants might have taken advantage of heavy rain in the area since last evening, as there was no electricity and no one was present at the temple at that time,’ OC Mominul said.

No one has been arrested in this connection yet, and no complaints have been filed, he said.

However, the police were conducting a thorough investigation to identify the attackers, added the police official.
