A 13-year-old student died by suicide in the classroom at JMG Secondary School of Pragpur under Daulatpur in Kushtia on Tuesday.
According to reports, Bina Khatun, daughter of farmer Atar Ali, a Class VIII, drank poison during the tiffin break while other students had stepped out of the classroom on Monday.
She was taken to Kushtia Sadar Hospital by teachers and family, where she died on Tuesday around noon.
Family and local sources said that Bina Khatun had been in a romantic relationship with another student.
When her family learned about it, they scolded her, which led her to suicide.
JMG Secondary School headteacher Ashraful Islam Nannu said, 鈥楤ina Khatun was under mental stress due to family pressure over a romantic matter.鈥�
Solaiman Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur police station confirmed the incident.
