A section of students of the Bangladesh Agricultural University on Sunday blocked the rail track on the Dhaka -Mymensingh route demanding reforms in the recruitment and promotion system of agriculturists in the public service.

They blocked the track at about 11:30 am and till 2:30pm their blockade went on.

Under the banner of Agri Blockade the students blocked the track.

Their demands are — all the candidates must pass a recruitment examination to enter into the ninth grade public jobs in agriculture, promotions through quotas are not allowed, open all 10th grade posts for the agriculturists in all research organisations and restriction on the use of the title ‘agriculturist’ without honours in agriculture or equivalent subjects.

Bangladesh Railway officials said that the students blocked the track in the morning.

'One of our trains is stranded in Mymensingh now,' said Dhaka railway station master Anowar Hossain.
