Two warehouses at Meghai area under Kazipur in Sirajganj on Thursday sealed on charges of illegally hoarding rice from the government鈥檚 food-friendly programme with the intent of selling it on the black market.
Led by executive magistrate Md Niyamat Ali Khan Himel, the mobile court conducted a day-long operation and sealed the warehouses.
Upon receiving advance notice of the raid, warehouse owners Sabbir Hossain and Solaiman Hossain, however, fled the scene.
From the two separate warehouses, 11,750 kilograms of rice were seized and sent to the government food warehouse at Kazipur.
Md Nasir Uddin, deputy director of NSI Sirajganj, along with personnel from the Kazipur police and the upazila food office, were present during the raid.
