Anti-Corruption Commission chair Mohammad Abdul Momen on Monday urged the voters to reject candidates who would use undisclosed money in the upcoming national election.

The ACC chief came up with the call while talking to journalists at the ACC headquarters in the capital’s Segun Bagicha.

He cautioned that elections often led to increased spending of undisclosed money, including attempts to buy votes.

‘When the use of money rises, there are two sides — demand and supply. On the supply side, we must stop. Banks have a role here, and we also have a role.

‘We will try to keep it under control as much as possible,’ he said.

Momen also warned that a rise in illegal money circulation could eventually trigger inflation.

Calling for vigilance against false asset declarations by candidates, he urged the media to share any evidence of concealed information with the ACC, as scrutiny time is limited after the submission of the election affidavits.

The ACC will take necessary measures as per law against the candidates if they have given false information in their election affidavit, he said.

The ACC chief encouraged citizens to raise their voices with the slogan, ‘We don’t want corrupt candidates in the polls.’

Noting that the government is committed to ensuring a fair election, Momen also expressed his confidence that the polls would be held on time as the government was taking preparations for the election.
