
At least six people were killed in road accidents in three districts, namely Dinajpur, Sylhet and Chattogram, between Friday and Thursday night. Â
The United News of Bangladesh reported that in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur, a woman and her two-month-old son were killed after they fell from a motorcycle and were run over by a moving truck at the Sonali Bank crossing on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Kohinoor Begum, a health assistant at the local union health centre, and her son, Risat Kaif.
Kohinoor, residents of Dhanghara village, was travelling with her husband, Golam Rabbani, to visit her parents’ house in Hili. Â
Eyewitnesses said that the accident occurred when the motorcycle had suddenly braked after an auto-rickshaw in front it came to an abrupt halt, causing the husband to lose balance and his vehicle to slide onto the path of an oncoming truck.
The deceased’s husband was left unhurt.
Birampur police sub-inspector SM Jahangir said that the family did not lodge any complaint and the bodies were handed over to the family after post-mortem.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that in Sylhet two men were killed after a ‘Dhaka Express’ bus hit their monocycle on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Ilashpur area of Osmaninagar upazila on Friday evening.Â
The deceased were Nazmul Islam, 32, and Arosh Ali, both from Baraishapur village in Umarpur union of Osmaninagar.Â
Nazmul died on the spot, while Arosh was declared dead after being taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Sherpur Highway Police officer-in-charge Abu Taher Dewan said that the bus was seized.Â
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Chattogram reported that two motorcycle riders were killed in the district in a collision with a fish-laden truck on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Lohagara upazila on Thursday night.
The accident occurred at about 11:00pm in Chunati Jangalia area while the victims were travelling to Sajek, said Dohazari Highway Police officer-in-charge Mahbub Alam.
The deceased were identified as Md Rakib, 21, of Jagirpara of Eidgaon Sadar union, and Jihad, 20, of Kaniyachhara area, both areas in Cox’s Bazar.
Quoting witnesses, The OC said that the victims, along with four other friends, were going from Cox’s Bazar to Sajek on three motorcycles when a truck carrying fish from the opposite direction hit one of the bikes.
Rakib and Jihad were thrown off the bike and run over by the truck.
The police seized the truck and detained its driver and his assistant, said the police officer, adding that a case was underway in this regard.Â
Following a request from their families, the bodies were handed over without autopsy on Friday morning, he said.
