A journalist of a Kushtia-based newspaper came under attack by a group of people at the BGB Sector area under Mirpur upazila in Kushtia Monday morning.
The victim is Firoz Ahmed, a correspondent of the Daily Ajker Sutrapat and a resident of the area.
Quoting local people, Mirpur police station officer-in-charge Mominul Islam said that there had been a dispute between Firoz and his neighbor Milon.
Milon locked in an altercation with Firoz two weeks ago over a trivial matter.
As a sequel to the dispute, Milon, along with four or five of his cohorts, attacked Firoz with locally made sharp weapons, leaving him injured on the spot.
Locals rescued him from the spot and took him to Kushtia General Hospital for treatment, the police official said.
Police were trying to arrest the accused involved in the attack, the OC added.
Dr. Hossain Imam, a residential medical officer at the hospital, said that Firoz sustained severe head injuries and wounds in his legs.
