A youth was stabbed to death during a clash between two groups of drug peddlers at the camp for the Urdu-speaking people in the capital’s Mohammadpur area Monday afternoon.

The deceased is Shah Alam, 16, a Urdu-speaking youth of the camp.

The clash occurred at about 3:00pm over establishing supremacy in the camp area, said Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Ali Iftekhar Hasan.

‘We have recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy. We have detained two people for their suspected involvement in the murder,’ Iftekhar said.

The OC, however, did not reveal the names of the detainees.

He said that no case had been filed so far in this connection.

The incidents of criminal activities, including mugging, drug peddling, extortion and robbery, continued to take place in the Mohammadpur area in the past one year since the interim government took office in August 2024.

Mohammadpur police station inspector for investigation, Md Hafiz Uddin, said that joint forces led by the Bangladesh Army were conducting raids at the camp.

‘We are yet to receive any of the detainees as the operation is underway,’ he added.
