
Sub-inspector Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, prime suspect in a custodial death case, was released on bail from the Sylhet Central Jail on Sunday.
The case was filed over torturing Raihan Ahmed, who hailed from Hawlader Para in Akhalia area in the Sylhet city, was allegedly tortured to death at the Bandar Bazar police outpost of Sylhet Kotwali police in the early hours of October 11, 2020.
Raihan’s wife Tahmina Akter Tanni filed the murder case with the Kotwali police station on the following day.
It was alleged that Raihan was tortured after the police failed to realise Tk 10,000 from his family in bribe.
Sylhet Central Jail-2 deputy jail officer Monirul Hasan confirmed of the release of SI Akbar on a six-month interim bail.
He said that a bench of the High Court granted the bail to SI Akbar on Sunday in the case.
‘The bail order was reached to us in the afternoon and SI Akbar was also released from the jail by the afternoon after completion of required formalities,’ Monirul told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·, adding that Akbar left the Sylhet Central Jail-2 at the evening.
