
Two people, including a businessman, were knifed to death by separate assailants in Sylhet and Moulvibazar on Thursday night.
The deceased are Fayzur Rahman Rubel, 42, owner of a hardware shop at Shamshernagar Road in Moulvibazar town also a resident of Gobindapur village under Kulaura in the district; and Dalim Ahmed, 35, resident of Merenga village under Nandail in Mymensinh, said the police.
Quoting the people of the area, Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner for media Mohammed Saiful Islam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that a youth stabbed on the chest of Dalim near the Keane Bridge area, a half-kilometre far from the Kotwali police station, at around 11:30pm on Thursday.
The police went to the spot and took the victim to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in a critical condition but the attending doctors declared him dead on arrival, he said.
He also said that Nayeem Ahmed Rajab, 19, a resident of of Panichhara village under Jaintapur in Sylhet, was identified as the suspected killer of Dalim after checking the footages recorded on the close circuit cameras. ‘He was also arrested from the city early Friday.’
According to the primary interrogation, both Dalim and Rajab are members of a hijackers’ ring and the killing incident took place due to a dispute over distribution of a mugged amount of money, he mentioned.
‘Preparation is going on to produce the arrested before the Sylhet metropolitan magistrate court,’ he said.
In another incident, a group of four miscreants entered in the shop of Shamshernagar Road in Moulvibazar at around 8:00pm on Thursday and rampantly stabbed the shop owner Rubel, said the people of the area.
Neighbouring shopkeepers went to the spot and took the victim to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital after rescuing him in a critical condition, said Moulvibazar Sadar police station officer-in-charge Gazi Mahbubur Rahman.
‘The on-duty doctors of the hospital referred Rubel to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated and he died on his way to the hospital,’ he said.
The OC said that they were working to ascertain the reason and men behind the killing incident.Â
