Industries adviser Adilur Rahman Khan on Friday said that July warriors’ sacrifices brought the ‘second liberation’ for Bangladesh.
The adviser’s statement came as he was visiting the proposed site for the ‘July Memorial’ at the July Smriti Udyan at Chattogram’s Panchlaish in the morning on the day.
During the visit, he said, ‘We must remember the July martyrs, the injured and all the participants our whole life. Not only us, but every future government must also honour their memory. It is because of their contribution that Bangladesh gained its second independence.’
He further said, ‘Since this park is named after the martyrs, placing the memorial at its centre would be most appropriate.’
The liberation war affairs ministry and the cultural affairs ministry would be consulted in this regard, he added, stating that their goal was to choose a site that would keep alive the memory of those who laid down their lives in Chattogram.
Chattogram deputy commissioner Farida Khanam and other senior administrative officials were present during his visit.
Later in the afternoon, adviser Adilur Rahman Khan laid the foundation stone for the Chattogram Development Authority’s Ring Road mosque in Patenga area in city. Chattogram City Corporation mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain was also present at the event.
