Bangladesh Maritime University observed the July Mass Uprising Day 2025 at the auditorium of temporary campus of the university in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Vice-chancellor of the university Rear Admiral Khandakar Akhter Hossain was present as chief guest at the event, said a press release on Thursday.


Remembering the martyrs in the uprising, Akhter Hossain mentioned that a review of the history of various countries around the world showed that whenever the rulers of a country concealed the truth, committed crimes such as injustice and corruption, oppression, torture, embezzlement and murder, a mass uprising became inevitable.

In this regard, he cited as examples the wars and uprisings of various countries, including Russia, China, Europe and the United States, and the War of Independence, the anti-dictatorship movement of 1990 and the July 2024 uprising.

He placed special emphasis on preparing university students to become skilled professionals in the maritime sector both at home and abroad and to enhance their skills by learning various languages including English, Chinese and Japanese.

He also urged students to develop themselves in this era of information technology by becoming skilled in artificial intelligence, smart technology, webpage design, chat GPT, graphics design, robotics, drones and the use of these technologies in the maritime sector.

BMU treasurer, registrar, deans, faculty members, officers, employees, students injured and participated directly in the July uprising and others were present at the event.

The event featured a film screening and documentary, commemorating the July uprising, as well as a photo exhibition and video documentary by the university鈥檚 photography club. The injured frontline students of the university who directly participated in the uprising were honoured and prizes were given to the winners of the photo and art contest organised by the Photography Club at the ceremony.
