
Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought president Professor Mahbub Ahmed and director general Professor Dr M Abdul Aziz expressed deep condolence at the death of Professor Emeritus M Shamsher Ali and prayed for the forgiveness of the soul and extended their sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives.
The renowned nuclear scientist and researcher, founding president of Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT), founding vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University (BOU), former professor of the Department of Physics of Dhaka University and former president of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS), Professor Dr M Shamsher Ali breathed his last at 3:30am on Saturday, August 3, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka. He was 87, said a BIIT press release.
Professor Dr M Abdul Aziz said, ‘The nation will remember the invaluable contribution of M Shamsher Ali with respect. He was not only a renowned scientist and teacher, but also an Islamic scholar and a responsible dayee ilallah.’
‘Shamsher Ali was a dedicated leader, sincere mentor, inspiration to intellectual practitioners and a peddler of dreams for researchers. His commitment to education, science and humanity was unwavering. His life was a shining beacon of knowledge - where science, spirituality and the belief in monotheism came together, Abdul Aziz said.
‘His absence has created a deep void in the BIIT family. However, we will continue our work to honour his memory by holding the values and ideals he taught. We pray to the Almighty Allah to accept all the good deeds of his colourful life, forgive all his mistakes and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.’
