Leaders, activists and supporters of the National Citizen Party from different districts on Sunday afternoon joined its pre-announced rally at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka as the party would unveil its manifesto outlining the visions for a ‘New Bangladesh’.
They started gathering at the venue from Dhaka and elsewhere in Bangladesh from the afternoon.
The NCP held month-long July March campaign in 59 districts across Bangladesh and engaged in dialogues with families of those martyred and injured in the 2024 uprising and students and citizens as part of its countrywide programme to mark the first anniversary of the uprising.
The feedback and aspirations known from people will form the basis of the party’s political outline, to be officially declared at today’s event, which will also mark the formal conclusion of the July March, according to the NCP leaders.
A group of student and youth leaders who led the July uprising formed the party on February 28.
The party is going to announce its manifesto on the same date when a single-point demand was issued calling for the ouster of a fascist regime and the establishment of a new political settlement during the uprising.
The NCP held its countrywide march—began on July 1 from Rangpur by offering prayers for uprising martyr Abu Sayeed and ended on July 30—demanding trial of the Awami League and its leaders for the massacres during the mass uprising, reforms in various sectors and a new constitution aiming at building a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
