The National Citizen Party considers Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani one of the founding fathers of Bangladesh, who fought for farmers, workers, and the mass people, said NCP convener Nahid Islam on Tuesday.

‘We consider Maulana Bhasani one of the architects of Bangladesh, one of the founding fathers of Bangladesh. Bangladesh has no single father of the nation. Rather, there are several founding fathers of the nation and Maulana Bhasani is one of them,’ said Nahid.

‘Maulana Bhasani has not been remembered in the history. Only one person was announced as the father of the nation, ignoring political figures like Sher-e-Bangla Fazlul Huq and Maulana Bhasani who were the architects of Bangladesh. Only one person was worshipped in the past 54 years,’ he further said.

Nahid made the remarks at a rally in Tangail’s Nirala Mor area on the 29th day of the party’s ongoing programme marking the first anniversary of the July uprising.

‘Sheikh Mujib would never have been created a leader without Maulana Bhasani’s contribution,’ stated Nahid, adding that Maulana Bhashani was a leading person behind the 1969 Mass Uprising, which enabled the Awami League in assuming the political leadership later.

Nahid is also a former central leader of the Students Against Discrimination movement that spearheaded the July uprising to oust the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.

‘We, the National Citizen Party, want to take forward Bangladesh embracing the ideology of Maulana Bhasani,’ said the leader of the NCP, which was formed by a group of student and youth leaders, who led the 2024 July uprising.

Citing Bhashani’s role in the struggles against British colonialism and Pakistani and Indian aggressions, Nahid said, ‘We have to fight for our rights to river and water, and Maulana Bhasani had started the fight.’

He also emphasised on organising and strengthening the organisations of the farmers to ensure their rights.

Earlier in the day, NCP leaders visited the families of those killed during the July uprising and held a march from Shamsul Huq Toron to the rally venue, reported ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Correspondent in Tangail.

NCP leaders and activists, including the party’s chief organiser for North Sarjis Alam, chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, senior joint convener Samanta Shermeen, senior joint member secretary Tasnim Jara, and joint convener Anik Roy, among others, participated in the programmes.

Sarjis said that attempts were made to undermine all other important figures, like Sher-e-Bangla, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, and Maulana Bhasani in history by worshipping only one person.

Later, in the day, NCP leaders and activists also held a rally and a march in Gazipur.
