A 25-year-old Bangladeshi man attempted to break the glass wall of the International Transit Terminal at Kolkata鈥檚 Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Friday, causing brief chaos before being detained.
The man, Mohammad Ashraful from Narayanganj, had arrived in Kolkata from Singapore on an Indigo flight and was waiting for a connecting flight to Dhaka. While in the transit lounge, he suddenly tried to break the terminal鈥檚 glass wall and exit the airport.
Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force quickly detained him. During questioning, Ashraful reportedly made incoherent statements, raising concerns about his mental condition.
He was later handed over to NSCBI Airport Police and officially arrested by Bidhan Nagar police that evening.
Authorities confirmed that Ashraful had been living and working in Singapore. An investigation is ongoing to determine the reason behind his actions.
In a separate incident, the anti-rowdy squad of Kolkata Police on Tuesday arrested a Bangladeshi woman for illegally staying in India.
Shanta Pal, 28, from Barishal, was arrested from her rented apartment in Jadavpur.
Police recovered several documents from her residence, including Bangladeshi passports, an employee card of Regent Airways, a Dhaka secondary education admit card, two Aadhaar cards with different addresses, an Indian voter ID, and a ration card.
