
Politicians, academics and professionals on Thursday remembered engineer Sheikh Muhammad Shaheedullah was a true patriot who wanted to establish a democratic society free from repression.
They remembered him at a commemoration meeting organised by Engineer Sheikh Muhammad Shaheedullah, Syed Aboul Moksud and Architect Mobasser Hossain Smriti Sangsad, marking 94th anniversary of birth of the renowned civil engineer and voice of democratic movement.
Held at the Bishaw Sahitya Kendra auditorium in Dhaka city, the discussion was chaired by Dhaka University’s former professor economist MM Akash.
Politician Saiful Huq said that Shaheedullah worked for establishing a democratic and repression free society.
‘We must work for fulfilling his unfinished dreams and youths should follow his ideals,’ Saiful Huq said.
Architect Iqbal Habib read out a life sketch of Shaheedullah, stating that he was a true patriot who dedicated his whole life for the welfare of the common people.
Shaheedullah was born on July 31 in 1931 and died on August 4 in 2014 in the United States.
Communist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince said that Shaheedullah led the movements against plundering of the country’s oil, gas and mineral resources, power and ports.
Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu, journalists Shuva Kibria, Kazal Rashid Shahin, youth leader Khan Asaduzzaman Masum and environment activist Alamgir Kabir also paid tribute to Shaheedullah at the commemoration meeting.
