A workshop titled Assessment of the Present Irrigation Efficiency In different Agro-Ecological Zone of Bangladesh was held at the seminar hall of Irrigation Building at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka on Monday.

Chairman of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation Md Ruhul Amin Khan was present as chief guest at the workshop, which was organised under the initiative of the BADC’s PARTNER project, said a press release.


‘The BADC is an agricultural and farmer-friendly organisation and the organisation is working relentlessly for the development of farmers,’ said BADC chairman.

Mentioning that BADC has a glorious chapter in the development of agriculture and farmers, he further said, ‘In addition to increasing the irrigation area of the country, BADC is working effectively on irrigation efficiency. However, the irrigation efficiency of different areas varies based on the existing agro-ecological zone.’

As a result, there is a need to take different types of plans and steps based on the area-based irrigation efficiency, he said, adding ‘The PARTNER project being implemented through BADC is taking various action plans to increase irrigation efficiency.’

Ruhul Amin Khan expressed the opinion that more timely steps would be taken based on the experience, observations and opinions gained from this workshop.

He urged all concerned to carry out their activities with professionalism, efficiency and dedication and stand firmly by the side of agriculture and farmers.

Engineers from different levels of the organisation, representatives of the World Bank, various agriculture-based organisations and Bangladesh Agricultural University, along with senior officials of different wings of BADC were present at the workshop.
