Fisheries and livestock adviser Farida Akhtar at a discussion in Dhaka on Sunday said that the jet crash into a building of Milestone School and College was a manifestation of faults of the deposed fascist government.

Gono Bishwabidyalay organised the discussion on the occasion of the revival of the July uprising at the PH Bhaban auditorium of Gonoshasthaya Kendra at Savar, said a press release.

Speaking as chief guest at the discussion, she said that conducting training with old jet exposed that the fascist structure or system still existed.

She also said that they did not want bloodshed and loss of life like in July during the tenure of the current government. ‘Because of this, many consider this government weak.’

Mentioning the role of the students of Gono Bishwabidyalay in the July uprising, she also highly praised the women leaders in the uprising.

The adviser also expressed regret that the women who led the uprising in July and August in the past year were disappearing after August 5.

Urging the students to continue movement, Farida said, ‘If the faults of the government are pointed out, we will definitely take them seriously.’

She also said, ‘Even if the government wants to, it cannot do much, but it is trying to give a beautiful Bangladesh.’

Gono Bishwabidyalay vice-chancellor Professor Md Abul Hossain was present as special guest at the event, which was chaired by Professor Nilufar Sultana, dean of the faculty of arts and social sciences of the university.

At the beginning of the programme, a documentary was screened on the role of students of the university in the July uprising, and at the end, a memorial was presented to the students injured in the uprising.
