At least six people were killed and two others were injured after a Dhaka-bound microbus collided head-on with a cement-laden truck at Baraigram upazila in Natore on Wednesday morning.

The accident took place at about 9:30am in Airmari area near Tormuj pump on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway, said Bonpara Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Ismail Hossain.


He said that all the victims, identity of whom could not be confirmed immediately, were passengers of the microbus.

Police and witnesses said that the microbus was overtaking another vehicle when it hit an oncoming truck, killing five passengers of the microbus, including the driver, dead on the spot.

Ismail Hossain said that the injured were rushed to Barai颅gram Upazila Health Complex, where one of them died from his injuries.

A severely injured passenger was later shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, he added.

The OC said that following the accident they seized the truck but its driver managed to flee.
