A post seeking financial donations for victims of the Bangladesh Air Force jet crash at a Milestone School and College building in Dhaka’s Uttara was removed from the verified Facebook page of the interim government chief adviser about half an hour after it was created on Tuesday.
The post was removed amid heavy social media criticism against the government move.
On Monday, a health ministry statement said that the government would cover all medical expenses for those injured in the crash.
Foyez Ahammad, senior assistant press secretary to the chief adviser, said that the post was removed following the people’s reactions to it.
He said that the government had enough fund, adding that as many people showed interest in donating for the victims, they posted it.
Asked whether they are still urging people to donate, Foyez said, ‘Donating to the CA relief fund is a normal thing.’
The post, which included bank account details of the CA’s Relief and Welfare Fund, was published shortly after 2:00pm on Tuesday. It asked donors to contribute to the relief fund for those affected by the military training aircraft crash.
As of Tuesday, at least 31 people, mostly students of the educational institution, were killed, 165 injured and two other remained missing in Monday’s plane crash, according to the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate.
