Several hundred HSC examinees of different colleges staged a sit-in programme in front of the Bangladesh Secretariat main gate, demanding resignation of education ministry adviser and secretary alleging their failure to postpone the examinations earlier.

The protesting students took position in front of the Secretariat blocking the roads at about 2:00pm claiming that the adviser Professor CR Abrar showed lack of humanity by delaying in postponing the examinations following the Bangladesh Air Force jet crash into a building of Milestone School and College in the capital’s Uttara area on Monday, that killed at least 27 and injured 171.

Dhaka Commerce College student Asif Mahmud told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the adviser could postpone the examinations earlier after the State mourning was announced on Monday.

‘The nation is observing mourning today but the ministry denied to postpone the examinations yesterday,’ said Asif, adding that the students came to know about the postponement in the morning.

Ideal College student Fahad Alam said that the protesters would not leave the streets until the adviser and the secretary resign from their posts.

‘We do not need any adviser who cannot feel the sorrow after such an incident,’ said Shariful Miraz, a student of Adamjee Cantonment College.

Earlier, the protesting students staged demonstrations in Science Laboratory area and in front of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.

Police charged batons, and used tear gas and sound grenade to disperse the protesters when some of them entered inside the Secretariat breaking police barricade at about 3:45pm.
