Guardians of the students of Milestone School and College were seen on Monday searching desperately for their children in the vicinity of the school and from hospital to hospital in the capital Dhaka after a Bangladesh Air Force jet crashed into one of the buildings of the educational institution at Uttara.

At least 20 people, including the pilot, were killed and 171 more were injured after the BAF jet crashed into one of the buildings of the Milestone School and College in Uttara area in the capital on Monday, said Inter Services Public Relations Directorate.


Immediately after the accident, guardians were seen running to the school from different parts of the capital.

‘I rushed to the school soon after I got the news. My daughter studies here,’ said a mother.

From the spot, ambulances one after another were seen leaving the spot with the victims.

Several guardians were seen crying as they could not find their children. The volunteers were seen taking them near the spot.

A mother was seen crying holding her Class VI student daughter who witnessed the incident.  The daughter said she saw many injured students.

The victims were taken to the Combined Military Hospital, National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital, Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Govt Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, Lubana General Hospital and Cardiac Center and Uttara Crescent Hospital.

At National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, several people were seen crying sitting on the floors outside the patient rooms while many people came searching for their loved ones.

Nahida Akhter told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that she could not find her nine-year-old cousin named Maria Umme Afiya after searching in at least five hospitals in the city.

‘After the news broke out, we rushed to the school and later to different hospitals. We are still clueless about her whereabouts,’ she said.

Abul Kalam Azad told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he went to pick up his 10-year-old daughter Muntaha, who is a class V student at the school, at about 1:00pm.

‘I pick her up from school every day. I was 10 minutes late today (Monday) and received the news of the incident upon reaching at the school gate,’ he said.

He managed to enter through the school gate but did not find his daughter anywhere in the school, Kalam said.

‘Then, I and my family members got divided and went to several city hospitals. At last, we found Muntaha injured after four hours of searching,’ he added.

At Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital, a mother was seen crying at the gate as she could not find her child anywhere. Â
