
Two more persons died at a Khulna city hospital after drinking toxic country-made liquor in Dumuria upazila of the district between Friday and Saturday night.
The deceased are Robiul Gazi, son of Rezwan Gazi, and Russel Sarder, son of Jamir Sarder, both are residents of Thukra village under the upazila.
Earlier, five people died in Khulna city after drinking toxic liquor and police detained the alleged manufacturer.
Officer-in-charge of Dumuria police station Md Masud Rana said that both individuals consumed a type of alcohol known as ‘Speed’ Friday night in Thukra Bazaar.
Robiul died Friday night and Russel died Saturday night, he said.
The incident occurred in Thukra village of Dumuria upazila on Friday while several individuals have fallen seriously sick after drinking toxic ‘Speed’.
Of them, Robiul and Russel were rushed to Dumuria upazila health complex but later they were shifted to Khulna Medical College and Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
The OC said that several others from the same area had also fallen seriously ill and were receiving treatment at different hospitals while keeping the matter confidential.
‘Legal action is being taken in connection with the deaths,’ the police officer added.
