Jatiya Mukti Council president Badruddin Umar on Friday said that after the victory of students-people uprising ousting the Awami League fascist government past year, the rightist and religion-based political forces grew in the country.

At a discussion organised by his party to mark the first anniversary of July uprising at the National Press Club in the capital Dhaka, Badruddin Umar, also an author, said that it was unfortunate that the leftist political parties were lagging behind after the uprising and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party was performing the most progressive role in the past one year.

Religion-based political party Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and newly formed political party National Citizen Party are following religion-based politics and they have now programmes for the farmers and workers of the country, he said.

The interim government in the past one year has failed to bring any major changes in the ruling system that could help the farmers and workers of the country and it should hold next general elections as early as possible, Badruddin Umar said.

He called on the political parties to make preparations for holding a social revolution to bring changes in the condition of the common people, farmers and workers.

The party’s secretary, Faiezul Hakim, said that his party was increasing organisational strength for holding a social revolution to bring radical social changes.

Central leaders of the party Bhulan Bhowmik and Kazi Iqbal also spoke at the discussion. Student leader Mitu Sarker conducted the programme.
