Leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD on Wednesday in separate meetings in Dhaka city called for implementing the spirit of July uprising and defeating anti-uprising forces with unity.

Leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance on Wednesday at a commemoration meeting called for implementing the spirit of July uprising to establish democratic rights and a society free from discrimination.


The LDA, a combine of six political parties, organised the programme at the central office of the Communist Party of Bangladesh to remember the July uprising martyrs, Abu Sayeed among them, with platform coordinator and CPB general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince in chair.

CPB leader Iqbal Kabir Zahid said that the administration failed to ensure safety of the National Citizen Party leaders who held a rally in Gopalganj on the day.

CPB president Mohammad Shah Alam, Socialist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz, general secretary of Democratic Revolutionary Party Mushrefa Mishu, , Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist) central leader Joydeep Bhattachrya, among others, spoke at the programme.

On the day at a protest rally in Dhaka city, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD called for unity among the July uprising forces to resist adversaries.

The party, which is a partner of Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, organised the rally in front of the National Press Club to mark the July uprising with its Dhaka city unit coordinator Kamal Uddin Patowary presiding.

Party general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon said, ‘We must continue our movement for implementing the spirit of the July uprising and we must resist the political forces against that spirit.’

Its senior vice-president Tania Rob said that changes must be brought to the system of rule to implement the uprising spirit.

Another vice president of the party Siraj Mia, central leaders Mainur Rahman, Syeda Fatema Hena, Mosharraf Hossain Montu, among others, addressed the rally.

Later, they held a protest procession marching through different city streets.
