The police recovered the blood-soaked body of a madrassah student from a pond at Sonaimuri in Noakhali on Wednesday, three days after he went missing.

The deceased is Shahdat Hossain Sajib, 14, a resident of Laskar Bari of Kashipur village in the upazila and a sixth grade student at Kashimpur Islamia Fazil Madrassah.

The police detained another madrassah student, Md Roni, 17, a resident of the same area, for questioning in connection with the incident.

Sonaimuri police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Morshed Alam said that the two friends from the same house went together to a garden next to their house.

Later, Rony came back home but Sajib did not return from the garden, he said.

‘There are injury marks on Sajib’s head. It seemed someone had hit on his head. The body was sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy and the reason of the death will be known from the report,’ added the police official.

Local people said that the police conducted search operation for Sajib in the garden on Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning, local people saw Sajib’s body floating in a pond near the garden and later the police recovered the body.
