The Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Friday sent former law minister Anisul Huq, ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 former adviser Salman F Rahman, and former EXIM Bank chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder, also the chairman of NASSA Group, to jail after their remand periods in separate cases were completed.

Metropolitan magistrate Md Jewel Rana passed the order after the investigating officers of the cases produced the three before the court after the completion of remand periods and submitted petitions to keep the accused detained in prison.


On July 7, the court granted a two-day remand for Anisul, also a former lawmaker from the Brahmanbaria-4 constituency, in a case filed with the Banani police station in Dhaka over illegal possession of firearms. Investigating officer Md Eadul Haque produced him before the court on Friday.

Sub-inspector Zahidul Islam produced Salman, also a former lawmaker from the Dhaka-1 constituency, before the court after his three days of remand in a case filed with the Jatrabari police station over the murder of a man named Md Amin. Zahidul is the investigating officer of the case.

In a case filed over the killing of a youth named Imon Hossain Gazi during the July-August uprising in 2024, the court had approved a five-day remand for Nazrul on February 12.

After the completion of the remand, the investigating officer of the case police inspector Md Abdul Majid produced him before the court on Friday and sought his detention.

According to the case details, Imon was fatally shot on August 5 during the July uprising on Chittagong Road in at Jatrabari in the capital Dhaka. His brother, Anwar Hossain, filed the case with the Jatrabari police station on August 28, accusing 85 individuals.

The July uprising ousted the authoritarian Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.

On August 13 past year, police arrested Anisul and Salman near Dhaka鈥檚 Sadarghat while they were allegedly attempting to flee the city via waterways.

The following day, the court granted a 10-day remand for Anisul in connection with a murder case filed with the New Market police station.

Later, Anisul and Salman were placed on different terms of remand in different cases filed with different police stations in Dhaka.

Nazrul was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police鈥檚 Detective Branch on October 2, 2024, in the capital鈥檚 Gulshan area. He has also been placed on different terms of remand in different cases since his arrest.
