A workshop to assess the accuracy of the rapid needs assessment report of the social and mental health protection project was held at the Bangladesh University Grants Commission in Dhaka on Monday.

UGC member Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossain was present as chief guest while UGC member Professor Masuuma Habib was present as special guest at the workshop, said a press release.


The panel discussants at the workshop were Professor Md Mahmudur Rahman of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology and Professor Saiful Islam of the department of development studies, University of Dhaka.

Professor Shafiun Nahin Shimul of the department of Institute of Health Economics, University of Dhaka presented the Rapid Needs Assessment Report at the event.

Anwar Hossain said that to relieve the students from frustration, a social and mental health protection project was taken up. ‘In this project, an attempt has been made to determine through research what kind of mental problems students are going through and what impact they have on education and social life.’

Masuma Habib emphasised the need to establish mental health protection centres in every university in the country.

She commented that this would help change the behaviour of students and reduce environmental pressure.

The programme was moderated by director for current responsibility of the international collaboration department of the UGC, Jasmine Parveen.
