Two children drowned in a pond near their house in Patakata area of Nalotona union in Barguna Sadar upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased are Junayed, 5, son of Siddiqur Rahman and Yasin, 8, son of Russell Hossain, both the residents of the same area.
Family sources said that Junayed and Yasin were playing beside the pond near their house in the afternoon and suddenly Junayed slipped into the water body. Yasin drowned while trying to save him.
Locals rescued the floating bodies of the children and took them to Barguna General Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.
Tazkia Siddiqah, resident medical officer of the hospital, said that the duo died before being brought to the hospital.
