
A Bangladeshi expatriate in Oman allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house after killing his ex-wife at Gulkibari in Mymensingh district town on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Rakibul Karim Rakib and his ex-wife Roushan Akter.
Abdullah Al Mamun, additional superintendent of Mymensingh police, said that Rakib and his wife Roushan who have two daughters got divorced three months ago.
The elder daughter of Roushan is a student of BRAC University in Dhaka while her younger daughter is a class XI student of Cantonment School and College.
After getting divorced, Roushan used to live with her younger daughter in Gulkibari area in the district town.
Quoting local people, police said Rakib had long been living in Oman for job purposes and on June 24, he returned from Oman.
Since then, Rakib began expressing various grievances about his wife on social media indicating her ‘extramarital affairs’.
On Tuesday, Rakib entered the house of Roushan and kept their daughter confined to a room.
Later, he stabbed Roushan indiscriminately, leaving her dead and handed over the documents of his property to her daughter.
At one stage, he also committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of the house.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
