At least two people, a man and a woman, died of Covid and 7 others tested positive for coronavirus in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours till Saturday morning.

The Directorate General of Health Services press release confirmed that one of the deceased died in Sylhet and another in Chattogram.


The latest figures took to 22 the number of death toll from the viral disease in and 535 the number of patients identified so far in this year.

Covid was first detected in the country on March 8, 2020.

So far, 29,519 people have died of the disease in Bangladesh, according to the official account with the cumulative number of Covid patients reaching 20,52,073.

The DGHS in the past week issued a warning about the rise of new Covid Omicron sub-variant, potentially triggering a fresh wave of infections.

The directorate in its 11-point directive urged people to avoid public gatherings, wear face masks and practise frequent handwashing.

Due to the rising infection rates in India and increasing domestic positivity, the DGHS emphasised precautionary measures.
