The Advisory Council Committee on government purchase in a meeting on Tuesday approved separate proposals to import 1.1 lakh tonnes of fertiliser at a cost of around 850 crore.

Of the amount, 30,000 tonnes urea will be imported from the United Arab Emirates at Tk聽141 crore, 40,000 tonnes Diammonium Phosphate from China at Tk聽358 crore and the same amount of same fertiliser from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at Tk聽351 crore.


Presided over by finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed at secretariat, the committee also approved appointing National Development Engineering for building 23 schools cum flood centers at Tk聽184 crore.

The committee approved the draft Liquefied Natural Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement to import five cargoes of LNG in 2025 and 12 in 2026 from the United Arab Emirates.

The finance adviser told reporters that the proposal on LNG import was very critical for supplying energy to the private sector industries.

LNG will be procured in phases to meet the demand, he said.

The day鈥檚 meeting approved a proposal from the Health Services Division to procure some 22 types of 49,256 cartoons of medicines from Essential Drugs Company Limited at Tk聽119.59 crore for distributing those to the community clinics across the country.

Five separate proposals from the ministry of shipping on increasing of around Tk聽246 crore to Tk聽1078.89 crore from previous Tk 832.24 crore in connection of procurement of 35 vessels for Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority were also approved.

The finance adviser said more marine vessels including feeder vessels would be procured.

Answering to a question, he said that the interim government would not hesitate to utilise the fund allocated for holding the next election.

The finance adviser also said he would sit with the press on the contemporary issues from time to time.
