Bangladesh Nationalist Party chair Khaleda Zia was taken to Evercare Hospital in the capital city on Wednesday evening for a health check-up.

The former prime minister arrived at the hospital from her Gulshan residence at around 7:47pm, said BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

Khaleda’s personal physician AZM Zahid Hossain said that the BNP chief would undergo several tests at the hospital as per her medical board’s advice.

‘After the tests are done, the board will decide on the next course of action,’ he added.

Khaleda was staying at the private hospital till filing of this report at 9:30 pm.

A huge number of leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations gathered at the entrance of Evercare Hospital as her motorcade arrived, causing brief congestion in the area.

Earlier in the day, the former prime minister left her Gulshan residence around 6:51pm, escorted by members of the chairperson’s security force, police personnel, and party leaders and activists to the hospital.

A huge number of party leaders and activists also gathered in front of Khaleda Zia’s residence.

The vehicle carrying Khaleda Zia left the residence later than scheduled due to the large crowd at the entrance, making it difficult for party leaders and police to manage the situation.

The 79-year-old Khaleda has been suffering from multiple health complications for several years.
