Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman has extended heartfelt thanks to the people and party leaders and activists who gathered in large numbers to welcome BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on her return to Bangladesh on Tuesday after four months of medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

The party acting chairman also expressed his gratitude to the members of the armed forces, the police and the Rapid Action Battalion and aviation security personnel for their efforts in maintaining security and public order during Khaleda Zia鈥檚 return, said a statement signed by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday.


Shortly after 10:30am on Tuesday, the BNP chairperson landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in a special air ambulance provided by the Emir of Qatar. She used the same aircraft to go to London on January 8 for treatment.

Thousands of party leaders and activists gathered along the entire route from the airport to Gulshan to welcome Khaleda home, lining the streets with national flags, party banners, flowers, placards, and her photos.
