Five children drowned in three separate incidents in Lakshmipur and Sherpur on Saturday.聽

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that two children drowned in a canal while taking a bath at Charramoni Mohan village under Lakshmipur Sadar in the district.


The deceased were Yasin Arafat, 4, son of Saidul Khokon, and Md Al-Amin, 5, son of Abdul Asad, both residents of the same village. People of the area rescued them and taken them to Sadar Hospital, but they died on the way.

In another incident, one-and-a-half-year-old girl Alifa Akhter, daughter of Sohag Hossain, drowned in a pond in front of their house at Charruhita village in the upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Lakshmipur Sadar police station Md Abdul Monnaf confirmed the incidents.

The BSS also reported that 10-years-old twin sisters drowned in a beel near their house at Char Namapara village ofLachmanpur under Sherpur Sadar in the district.

The deceased were Nila and Shila, daughters of Abdus Salam, a resident of the village.

Nila and Shila went to the beel with some other friends for taking bath and drowned in the water body.

People of the area rescued them and took to Sadar hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Officer-in-charge of Sherpur Sadar police station Md Zubaidul Alam confirmed the matter.
