A trawler carrying 39 passengers capsized in the Meghna River at Hatia in Noakhali on Saturday.
The accident occurred around 3.45pm when the trawler was traveling from Bhasan Char towards Karimbazar in the district.
With the help of local fishermen, coast guard and naval police rescued 32 people. Till now, one body was recovered from the water, while six remain missing.
Witnesses said that a trawler carrying 39 passengers started its journey from Bhasan Char in Hatia towards Karimbazar at 2:00pm. The trawler capsized due to inclement weather, just a kilometre away from Karimbazar.
Noakhali police superintendent Md Abdullah Al Faruk said that Coast Guard, Naval Police and local fishermen had so far rescued 32 people and recovered one body.
The rescue operation is going on till filing of this report.
